World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This value is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). The average item level is listed on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item's level.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item level upgrade and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a few theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
item level upgrade Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by adding a name.
All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item upgrader mod, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader (Keep Reading) CORE client config.
