World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade item track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a sign of the damage and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full item description, including its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

This is not the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns), or make the item upgrader unique by adding an additional name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an Best item upgrade that is unique or a God roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shops or made with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
